Residency: Hakeem Osman & Marcin Mokrzycki

In January, Hakeem Osman and Marcin Mokrzycki enjoyed a residency at the location.

What do you think about the studio?’
It’s really wonderful to have access to such a resource. It’s like a library that specialises in electronic music history: Not only because of all the iconic & rare gear, all the books, stickers & flyers, but also the thousands of records.

If you’re a naturally curious person & wonder how the music we love was made, then all you have to do is look around. It’s likely you’ll find your answers. It’s truly inspirational.

Which were your favourite machines?

How did you spend your time?
We spent MANY hours here, so we did a few different things, from digging through the record collection & jamming to building a sample library from the synths we were most interested in.

How are you going to use this week’s work?
We used our time to develop our studio workflows across different areas ranging from rigging, routing & sample recording to session & file management. We also focused heavily on using Ableton Push 2 as a controller to speed up our process & get to the fun bits asap: Playing music!

Everyone in the residency have been given the task to leave something for the next one in the studio –  what’s your contribution?
We created an extensive sample pack with roughly 150 samples from 6 different synths (Roland Juno 106, Sequential Prophet 6 Module, Sequential Pro-One, Casio CZ 1000, Roland JP-1080, Roland SH-101). Hopefully, local producers will find some of these interesting. Would be lovely to hear what people can make of it.
