Thank you to everyone for four wonderful days of bass excursions, time travel and fully packed rave trains. Here’s a selection of some of the best photos. We like to jump back and forth in time on the Strøm team, but this selection of pics are in chronological order.

The launch event at Glyptoteket time-traveled back to the earliest stages of the electronic music scene in Denmark – with Gunner Møller Pedersen. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen.
Gunner Møller Pedersen on stage with music edfitor at Politiken, Thomas Michelsen. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen.
Very rare albums were signed – and bought by an eager audience. The selection was sold out in minutes. We loved the enthusiasm. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen.
After the launch at Glyptoteket, at 21 o’clock at Musikhuset, Anton Friisgaard gave an expertly guided tour in Lydlaboratoriet of the abilities and quirks of the super rare machines from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Once again, the audience was very enthusiastic. Photo: Alexander Banck-Petersen
Speaking of enthusiasm: The Trans Metro Express train on Friday was fully packed as always. Photo: Jonas Kirkegaard.
Jump on the party train! Thank you to each and everyone on this train, from the sound crew to the ravers. An event like this is only possible if everyone takes care of eachother. Massive vibes!!! Photo: Jonas Kirkegaard
This year’s line-up was oqbqbo, Grammar of Movement, Atikka and Lyra Valenza. Here’s Attika. First psytrance act ever on the Trans Metro Express. Soooooo good! Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen
So packed. Much fun. Very hot. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen
Lyra Valenza danced, jumped, sweated, laughed and showed immense skills in playing live in a super duper intense environment. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen
The sun was shining from a clear blue sky all day at the outdoor party at ALICE in Vanløse. The daytime lineup was exnr & øre snu, Angel & Atusa and Téa. Photo: Jonas Kirkegaard.
The sun went down, the moon rose. Everyone was dancing under the glowing mushrooms at the Down the Rabbit Hole Party at ALICE. Photo: Jonas Kirkegaard
The indoor lineup at the Down the Rabbit Hole party was Amor Satyr, Bitter Babe and Muskila. Photo: Jonas Kirkegaard
Follow us to wonderland as we take you on a soundtrip between worlds. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen
Aaaaah, the low frequency sound massages. VibroAcoustics worked with the healing power of bass at Riises Landsted on Frederiksberg. Two days of concerts and dreamy soundscapes. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen.
The line-up for the outdoor daytime party at Tunnel Visions at Odds and Ends in Nordhavn was Mikkel Ulriksen + Opica + Deb Foam + HVAD + Azu Tiwaline. Photo: Jonas Kirkegaard

The 15 hour long party moved inside at 21.00, turning up the bass and the tempo. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen
The lineup inside was mi-el, re:ni, Batu and Minor Science. Here’s mi-el on the decks.
Thank you to all the ravers and music explorers joining us at the edge of the city. Photo: Flemming Bo Jensen

Do you want more Strøm? You can still experience two electronic pieces composed specifically for the Strøm Festival 2023 – on a city square in Frederiksberg.

Even though Strøm Festival 2023 is over, there’s still time to immerse yourself in our Multichannel Round Trip experience: Two soundscapes created specifically for the festival and for the 32 underground speakers on Solbjerg Plads on Frederiksberg – by Alfredo92 and Julie Østengaard.

The daily playthroughs will continue until Thursday the 14th of September (last playthrough at 20.00-20.25).

Playthroughs Monday to Thursday:
07.30 – 07.55
16.00 – 16.25
20.00 – 20.25

The two composers have created two very different pieces for the underground sound system on the square.

SEWAGE PEOPLE
Julie Østengaard’s piece, ‘Sewage People’, consists of fake AI-generated advertisements promising the impossible: Having endless success without stress.

“Upgrade your life in just one hundred upgrades” the voices promise from the underground. “Get your recognition. Our services will help you.”

”They are all quite absurd suggestions and schemes as how to achieve success and self-realization very quickly while maintaining peace and harmony in your soul at the same time, which is obviously impossible, because you’re so busy with all the improvements”, says Julie Østengaard.

“And all you really need is just one voice that asks you: Are you okay?”

SCUTTLE
Alfredo92’s piece, ‘Scuttle (Pond Version)’ is a rhythmic exploration of the movements going on on the square – and below, in the metro system.

“This square is supposed to be very streamlined, taking you easily from A to B. But it’s not, really. It becomes quite chaotic very quickly,” Alfredo 92 says and points to the edge of the square by the metro.

“When you enter the square from over there, you can hear some of the sounds from my piece and they will seem quite chaotic. But when you get to this place in the square, it all makes sense, rhythmically”.

Don’t miss out on these pieces of sound art. Just show up on the square and listen – and if you feel adventurous, move about on the square and discover the more hidden soundbites ascending from the sound wells.

The Multichannel Round Trip experience premiered on the first day of the festival – on 31st of August 2023 – and has played every day since then.

Tak til Frederiksbergfonden, Frederiksberg Kommune og Lydbrøndene.

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. Open lab sound experiments: Rare machines and old electronic sound equipment from the 60s, 70s and onwards meet new technology – in the hands of composer Anton Friisgaard.

What does sound equipment and electronic machineries from the 60s, 70s and 80s sound like? When we revisit them with the technology we use today, what can they teach us? Which tones and vibrations hide in their interiors? If we approach them with modern tools and a new understanding, can they do stuff we have forgotten or haven’t tried yet?

Join our ‘Back to the Future’ event at Musikhuset København and get a sneak peak into the past AND the future  – in a room filled with rare machines.

Musikhuset København
Vesterbrogade 59
Thur Aug 31st
21.00-22.00

Composer Anton Friisgaard opens the doors to ‘The Sound Laboratory’ – a studio set up at Musikhuset København where he explores the musical possibilities of a large collection of original sound equipment from the 60s, 70s and onwards.

‘The Sound Laboratory’  (Lydlaboratoriet) is a project launched by Strøm and Art Music Denmark to preserve and activate old sound equipment and electronic machinery used by the Danish electronic sound artists in the 1970s and 1980s. The pioneers!

Now, we are bringing the machines back to life in new surroundings:

A large collection of this machinery and sound equipment is now collected in a room at Musikhuset København (The Music House København) on Vesterbrogade.

Amplifiers, vibration meters, response test units. A Heterodyne Analyzer Type 210 from Brüel & Kjær. A Hewlett-Packard 3300a Function Generator. A soundcraft audio mixing console from the 70s, as big as a spaceship. And many, many more.

In this studio, musicians Anton Friisgaard and Guðjón Andri will experiment with the machines for three months, exploring the possibilities, the sounds and the musical expressions they can achieve with them.

This event will be a sneak peak into the process, hosted by Anton Friisgaard.

“What I find most exciting is exploring the symbiosis between the old and new technology. I’m exploring how to control the old machines with new technology and vice versa. This interaction between the modern machinery and the old sound equipment can lead me down new pathways to new worlds of sound”, Anton Friisgaard says about the project.

“I’m exploring the machines intuitively and I might find something forgotten and something overlooked. That’s part of what I want to showcase at this event”, he continues.

Capacity for the event  is very limited. We will let you know how to reserve your spot very soon. Watch this space.

Strøm Festival is supported by Statens Kunstfond, Københavns Kommune and Frederiksberg Kommune.

The machines, electronic instruments and sound equipment has been lent to Strøm and Art Music Denmark by sound pioneer Gunner Møller Pedersen (you can experience him and some of his legendary works at our launch event at Glyptoteket on August 31st).

In addition, DTU (Technical University of Denmark), Fuzzy, Bjørn Svin and private collectors like Frederik Birket-Smith and Klaus Nielsen have donated several musical devices and machines to the collection as well. All the equipment has been collected in cooperation with Maple Pools.

After four days of Strøm journeys all over the city and through the entire spectrum of electronic sounds, prepare for a soft landing, a deep grounding powered by bass, and a new take-off: Let’s go to the moon, and beyond.

On the fourth and final day of Strøm, join us for an afternoon and evening at the legendary and colourful Christiania venue Månefiskeren (the Moon Fisher) for a Sunday wind down that will shake you up, too.

The massive speaker wall of the Strøm Soundsystem will submerge you in deep bass music expertly served by Mia Koden, Perko and Yeahlena – true to the roots of soundsystem genres but in a modern and forward-looking blend, mixing up dub music, dancehall, dubstep and jungle with elements from the hemisphere of all imaginable sub-heavy sounds.

Chilled out vibes and turbulence-inducing basslines. Spaced out, but down to earth.

And your last chance to get a dose of Strøm.

Sunday Sept 3rd at 15.00-21.00
Månefiskeren, Christiania
Free entry

Strøm Festival is supported by Statens Kunstfond, Københavns Kommune and Frederiksberg Kommune.

Mia Koden (UK)
@miakoden
Mia Koden aka Sancha Ndeko is a South-london based South Sudanese and British music producer and dj well-known from the acclaimed dubstep duo Sicaria Sound and now exploring different corners of bass music and beyond under her new alias. Still dubsteppy, but in a genre-versatile and BPM-fluid way – with dj-sets that are always energetic and surprising, yet cleverly cohesive.

Perko (GB-SCT)
@perkopair
Fergus Jones is a Scottish producer and dj living and working in Copenhagen. As a producer, his sound is characterised by layers of subtly shifting chords, blown out drum machines, space echo and field recordings. For this Sunday, Perko will go deep with extremely spaced out dub music – not for the fainthearted, but for the heads.

Yeahlena (EE)
@yeeah.lena
Dub music selector from Estonia, now based in Berlin. She is co-running Ace Tone label and party series, in charge of monthly radio show Heavy Duty and has been working closely with Tax Free Records. Bringing dub, steppers, dancehall and anti-Babylon tunes – and possibly some dub-rooted d’n’b. Some vocals but also killer versions which sound more like music from aliens than humans.

Imagine a weird mirror world of busy sewage people below your feet, reflecting the city life above through sound. Imagine rhythms from the underground unveiling and intensifying what goes on in your psyche. This is what might happen when you dive into the Multichannel Round Trip at Lydbrøndene.

32 speakers are installed below ground in 32 wells all around the city square of Bent Fabricius-Bjerres Plads (Solbjerg Plads) on Frederiksberg, creating an underground sound system and a unique musical platform below our feet called Lydbrøndene (The Sound Wells).

This multichannel sound system allows for musicians and sound artists to create multidimensional and dynamic soundscapes that curious visitors and passers-by can walk through and explore on their own.

This year, Strøm has invited sound artist Julie Østengaard and music producer Alfredo92 to create a piece each for The Sound Wells.

You can experience their creations transforming the square throughout the Strøm Festival at specific times during the four days.

Just show up and explore your own sonic adventure in the city square. Let the sounds ripple through your psyche. Pay attention. Move from the surface of things to the depths. Discover the patterns and experience how the square transforms – and maybe your mind, too.

Alfredo92: Scuttle (Pond version)

This piece sets out to unveil the hecticness and chaos that the stringent concrete architecture of the urban city square attempts to conceal. It will embrace and intensify the hecticness of transportation that goes on every day in the urban space above ground. And maybe below. Jump onto the hidden rhythms and see where they take you.

Julie Østengaard: Sewage People

A sonic dystopia where fantasy creatures living in the wells observe the busy world above. This surreal collage blends humor and absurdity with reality: In a toxic, bubbling and absurd underground universe, a life of productivity, self-realization, and consumerism is mirrored through echoes of fragmented digital voices. Fake AI-generated advertisements playfully promise the impossible: To achieve it all without stress. A satirical reflection on the modern obsession with success and “having it all.”

When to experience ‘Scuttle (Pond version)’ and ‘Sewage People’:

Weekdays
07.30 – 07.55
16.00 – 16.25
20.00 – 20.25

Saturdays and Sundays
14.00 – 14.25
20.00 – 20.25

First playthrough Thursday 31st of Aug.
Last playthrough Thursday Sept 14th.

About Alfredo92
Alfredo92 is a DJ and producer based in Copenhagen, running the label Axces Recordings which saw the release of his debut album ‘Transient’ in 2021.  Alfredo92’s style is rooted in dance music but incorporates leftfield elements and always explores new realms. Alfredo92 has also released as TAXA on the Mirror Zone label run by Spekki Webu – a release driving the tempos beyond logic – resulting in what can be described as a kaleidoscopic braindance with a sense of urgency.

About Julie Østengaard
Julie Østengaard is a sound artist, electronic composer and performer spanning across experimental electronic genres like ambient, musique concrète and glitch. Julie’s works have incorporated elements such as warning sirens, mobile phones, brain impulses and the contents of an old shipyard. In addition to her solo projects, Julie has collaborated with companies like Convoi Exceptionell and Kollektivet Samling and has had her work presented at events like Klang Festival, Click Festival, Spor Festival, Göteborg Art Sounds Festival and Kunsthal Kongegaarden.

Strøm Festival has been made possible by the support of Statens Kunstfond, Københavns Kommune, Frederiksberg Kommune and Frederiksberg Fonden.

This is the second year of Strøm Festival diving into Lydbrøndene/The Sound Wells at Bent Fabricius-Bjerres Plads (Solbjerg Plads). In 2022, Sofie Birch, CTM and Schacke composed pieces for Strøm Festival at The Sound Wells.

Follow us to wonderland as we take you on a soundtrip between worlds.

Our Friday event is for the adventurous ravers and curious listeners, moving between genres and across borders and boundaries, taking you all over the globe in twelve hours, from Kurdistan to Columbia.

From sped up dembow rhythms to Middle Eastern tonalities, from lively bass and playful percussions to trippy moods and swampy techno, from angels to satyrs, from outside to inside.

The party starts on the rooftop terrace at 16.00 and continues inside from 22.00-04.00. Tick-tock tick-tock, we’ll make your clocks go backwards with a 12-hour musical excursion.

Lineup: Amor Satyr, Angel & Atusa, Bitter Babe, exnr & øre snu, Muskila, Téa.

Lineup: exnr & øre snu + Atusa & Angel + Téa

exnr & øre snu
exnr & øre snu dives into high energy rhythms from around the world, mixing groovy percussion, bouncy r&b edits and Brazilian baile magic with the dark bass music of London.

Angel & Atusa
Expect a captivating journey through boundary-pushing soundscapes from the dynamic duo of Joakim Wei Bernild (from First Hate) and Atusa Zamani, blending juke, experimental club, nightcore and pop-edits with Persian classics and East Asian autotune tracks.

Téa
Danish/Jamaican Téa plays groovy, versatile and danceable sets of trippy techno and spacy house with subtle changes of pace and mood in her sets, leading you securely through hypnotizing labyrinths of rhythms and soundscapes, from swamp lands to city sirens.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE – INSIDE
Friday Sept 1st at 22.00-04.00
80 DKK (tickets here)
Lineup: Amor Satyr + Bitter Babe + Muskila

Amor Satyr
Speed dembow meets Brazilian baile funk meets continental techno meets electro and trancey drum patterns. French Amor Satyr blends pan-Latin American sounds with house and techno, adding extra spice to dancefloors all over the globe.

Bitter Babe
A multidisciplinary artist and dj who hails from Bogotá, Colombia and is now based in Miami. Her selection blends bass-heavy groove club music with Latin-inspired percussive rhythms ranging from dembow, raptor house and guaracha to reggaeton and brazilian funk.

Muskila
Muskila fuses high energy techno rhythms with percussions and tonalities from his Kurdish background, honoring the Middle Eastern music traditions while always challenging the status quo. Darbuka drumming and mizmar melodies meet four-to-the-floor techno beats. Let’s travel.
