“The studio is an invaluable asset to the electronic music community in Copenhagen”

Strøm and Musikforeningen Kapellet (the studio run by 2000F & Raske Penge) offer week-long residencies in their Copenhagen-based studio to local music producers.

The studio is jam-packed with vintage electronic instruments & studio equipment, and in March, Peachlyfe enjoyed a residency at the location.

What do you think about the studio?
The studio is an invaluable asset to the electronic music community in Copenhagen. The amount of special gear gathered in one place is really something. It has been really amazing to be out of my usual environment and use some machines I wouldn’t otherwise have access to.

Which machine was your favourite?
The Korg SD 1000 was the effect machine I used the most. It was so great to use a delay where you have to use your ears to sync it. I made a lot of textures & quirky grooves with that one. I loved the bass sounds on the Yamaha DX100, too – so funky & perfect for progressive sounds.

How did you spend your time?
Every other morning I recorded a long meditation-like jam session on a bunch of synths. I love to do that to focus my energies & get creativity flowing.
After the first jam session it felt clear to me that I had to create some tracks from scratch. I started on ideas to a lot of stuff – maybe 10+ tracks. But I focused on two that I finished tracking & almost finished mixing while I was there. Furthermore, I tracked additional synths & effects for some music I was already working on. I also made three virtual instruments from samples I recorded in the studio.

I’m gonna use those two finished tracks on an EP, which I think will come out before summer. And I now have a bunch of sketches and meditations I can continue working on in my own studio.

All artists in the residency has been given the task to leave something for the next one in the studio. What’s your contribution?
I’m gonna leave one of the synth morning meditations for others to listen to & possibly sample from. Besides that I’m leaving three virtual instruments: The TR-707, the TR-727 and the Yamaha DX100 Solid Bass.
