From graffiti to psy trance, house music and hard tek, Kristian Andersen wears many hats, and through his cultural determination he has marked himself as one of the key figures within the DIY party scene in Copenhagen and beyond

Growing up in Jutland and digging his way through graffiti and skate movie soundtracks, Kristian Andersen has since an early age been invested in underground music, culture and communities. For more than a decade Kristian Andersen has been a key figure in the Copenhagen scene, playing, organising and promoting a wide range of electronic music. Whether it’s the pounding Lost 2 Reality party series, the DIY psy trance festival SEISMO or the cutesy, natural wine bar gigs, Kristian Andersen digs it all.

This mix is 100 minutes of hypnotising, fun and happy tunes inspired by a set he played earlier this year at rooftop sound system party at ALICE during Strøm Festival.

How did you get into electronic music and how did it evolve from there?

So, the first memories I have about electronic music dates back when I was a young teenager and was into graffiti and skate culture. In the southern part of Jutland where I am from there weren’t really any communities exploring those, so I would spend a lot of time digging online and watching movies. Especially the soundtracks from different skate and graffiti films have had a great influence on me. There was just a special vibe to these films that somehow ignited my interest and imagination. Two nice examples of that could be Shorty’s fulfill the dream soundtrack and Dirty Handz 3 Soundtrack

I did a 1 year course at an art school where suddenly I found myself surrounded by like minded people that had the same passion for music. Lots of In 2007-08 we went to Phono Festival in Odense – which later evolved into the Copenhagen based Proton agency and recordshop. The next year I moved to Copenhagen where I could really indulge in the electronic scene.

Having been involved in the scene for more than 10 years, what keeps you going?

Without a doubt it’s the people I’ve met through music. For me, music is just as much the shared feelings that you have with others as well as the ones you have when you’re by yourself. I was lucky enough to meet a bunch of people that were just as interested in music as myself back in the early 2010’s. Today they are some of my closest friends. Organising and promoting parties, and supporting each other though that has been very meaningful and definitely one of the reasons that this keeps being interesting and giving. If it wasn’t for the hardworking DIY community, I could not imagine that I would still be doing this.

Can you tell us a little more about the mix and tracks that you’ve chosen for it?

The mix is inspired by the set I played earlier this year at Strøm Festival at the rooftop party at ALICE, however not a copy! I like when you can hear when a mix is recorded live or in the studio by oneself. The tracks I’ve selected are these sort of hypnotising house records which can seem repetitive but also quite pop like and happy. There are some old tracks, like _OLD_ tracks and and also some very fresh and new ones.
