30 otherworldly tracks from the talk of the town collective Unearth

Unearth is a Copenhagen-based collective launched in 2023 by Sebastian Gabe and Thinh T. Petrus Nguyen, championing experimental music and art. Hyperlocal in its roots with a global pulse, Unearth has carved out a universe of its own, which sonically and aesthetically is worlds apart from the city’s existing music scene. Their events showcase a bold mix of local and international artists, cultivating a sound that is unbound by genre but unmistakably coherent.

With events in Ho Chi Minh City, ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art and venues across Copenhagen, Unearth is reshaping the city’s musical identity through community, curation and cultural exchange.

Or as Dazed writes:

“Danish club night Unearth heralds a profound shift in the Danish capital’s sonic underground. Where the previous techno scene primarily took inspiration from their bleak Scandinavian surroundings, Unearth celebrates a new wave of diverse global voices within Copenhagen’s sonic landscape.”

Can you tell us about Unearth? What’s your mission?

Unearth is Copenhagen’s hyper-rhythmic realm – a genre-agnostic platform for fractured sounds and pseudo phantasms. We created Unearth because we felt like something was missing in Copenhagen – sonically, aesthetically and in terms of community – and thought: why not fill that void?

We didn’t just want to stand out in the local scene, but also build something that could hold its own on a global scale.
We want to create immersive experiences that feel different — and platform voices often overlooked, along with artists who don’t typically get booked in Copenhagen. Up next: UnBoat – a cross-atlantic Unearth event featuring a b2b set with Michael Imperioli and Arca.

How do you see your project resonate with people?

We’re happy people are connecting with what we do — not just locally in Copenhagen, but across borders. We’ve had guests travel from the UK, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden and beyond to our events.

You mentioned beforehand that this playlist consists of some of your favourite tracks from artists who performed at your events. How would you describe the artistic coherence that ties these tracks and artists together with Unearth?

All 30 tracks are by artists who’ve performed at Unearth. We’re not bound by genre, but we curate with intention and intuition. Whether it’s experimental electronic, hip hop or something in between, there’s a shared tension, energy and urgency in the music we gravitate toward. We’re also drawn to contrasts — finding patterns among artists and sounds, and creating lineups that coalesce into experiences beyond any individual performance.
