Thank you to the dedicated and fully absorbed crowd who showed up to our Hainbach talk and concert at Alice on Sunday. The vibe was both intense, meditative, fun, and focused!
What everyone in the room experienced was the world premiere of ‘Schwachstromwerke’, an improvised suite of test equipment sounds and tape reels recorded by @hainbach101 during his three days in the Strøm Studio in Copenhagen.
About half of the machines in Hainbach’s live setup on the night were of Danish provenance, including an original Beat Frequency Oscillator Type 1022 by Brüel & Kjær from the 60s, and the much newer, locally built, Hexaphon.
And in the middle of it all, Hainbach, carefully handling the tape loops and his touring tape machine in a hypnotizing slo-mo performance involving careful hand movements and the delicate manipulation of a tiny screw driver, changing speeds.

Hainbach with the Brüel & Kjaer Beat Frequency Oscillator 1022, and powerful tone-generator, capable of outputing 120V!

During Hainbachs residency he recorded material for his concert on the Nagra, which he later used to perform with.

Thanks, everyone, for participating in this sound ritual! Or, as Hainbach described his performance, a ‘choose your own adventure book’, referring to how and when he chooses the different tape loops during his improvised live-sets.
