Hi Maria, thanks so much for creating this mix for us. Can you tell us a little bit about it?

This mix is definitely inspired by the beginning of my DJ journey. I used to be really into bassy, UK leftfield, and breakbeat sounds — which still show up in my sets — but over the past year, I’ve been leaning more towards deeper stuff. That’s why you can hear a blend of those influences in this mix.

I also have to admit I drew a lot of inspiration from Strøm events, which I always find super interesting and intriguing. I wanted to capture that same energy and vibe here.

The mix was recorded in June at Jolene — shoutout to Francesco for always letting me use one of the best booths in Copenhagen, haha.

Can you tell us about your musical background leading up to this style presented in the mix?

When I started DJing, I was really focused on finding my own sound rather than following what was popular. For example, I never really got into trance, which I could hear at many events here in Copenhagen at the time — I was more drawn to exploring niche and unique styles that felt more “me.”

At one point, I got really into half-tempo tracks, which I didn’t hear many people playing around here, and I used them a lot in my sets and mixes. Then after a while, I felt like I’d overdone it a bit, so I switched things up again – classic me.

I think in general most of my inspiration comes from attending different festivals or events abroad — I always come back wanting to bring those ideas and sounds to Copenhagen, whether through my sets or my mixes. I just try to keep things interesting and fresh. And of course, being surrounded by so many creative and inspiring people, and sharing music with friends has shaped my style a lot too.

You are juggling a lot of things, DJ’ing, promoting, organizing events and more – what next for you?

Yeah, I probably should stop juggling so many things, haha. I have a full-time job now, which I’m really passionate about and has been a big priority this year. But my ambitious side can never sit still — I finally took a production course this year and will soon be releasing my first track, which is super exciting! (Big shoutout to Anders Dixen — the best mentor I could ask for.)

Other than that, I’ll continue in my role at Kune Festival and keep taking gigs here and there, just like this year. I never really planned for DJing to become such a big part of my life, so playing gigs once every month or two feels perfect to me. Now it’s all about figuring out how to balance everything — and start putting out music too, haha.
