— Ahead of a live performance at Strøm Festival 2025 Mbizo demonstrates his sound with 28 home grown productions

With a conscious foundation in dub music, Noah Mbizo explores the spectrum of soundsystem culture and bass-heavy music. With releases on labels like Tribe 84, Circle Vision, Solumn and Raske Plader, his sound blends elements from dubstep, grime, breaks & UK funky.

Thanks for doing this mix for us Noah – can you tell us a little bit about it?

Yes, this Strøm Mixx is very special to me, because the tunes included are all my own compositions – and almost everything in the mix is unreleased! It also includes a new special remix for Bikstok and some exciting collaborations too. I have been thinking about making a showcase-mix like this for so long, so it’s satisfying to finally have one. Enjoy : )

In order to understand your musical foundation, I’m curious about how music was a part of your upbringing?

Music has always been in my life and I’m definitely born into a musical family. I grew up in homes where diverse and versatile music was represented and I also used to play the drum set back in the days. My grandad was a respected jazz musician, my uncle is mastering the percussion and even my dad and aunty used to DJ in a reggae/dancehall crew called ‘’People’s Choice’’. I remember being out with People’s Choice on gigs and experiencing soundsystem- and music-culture from early on. My music production journey started in my early teens in primary school messing around with FL Studio, which still is my faithful DAW. But the style I am known for now, probably started around 2019.

How did that evolve into an interest in bass music?

Of course experiencing the legendary Bas Under Buen, or visiting Bolsjefabrikken (Dubfabrikken mostly). These events were some of the firsts outer-body experiences I had that really got me hooked on deep vibrations. The meditating level you can access when the bassline moves your body and when repetitive grooves play, is amazing – something everyone should experience! Nothing beats a fat & steady reggae-bassline! But I also must give thanks to people like RDG and 2000F for taking me under their wings and believing in me from very early on and booking me one of the first times.  And big up my bass family Nørrebro Bas Klub and Vesterbro Bas Klub.

You are performing at Strøm Festival 2025: Sound System Peace Party with a fresh live set. Can you tell us about the process of creating it, and what we can expect?

Yes – and I am VERY excited. It feels great (and a bit scary) to perform more as a live artist, which is quite a new territory for me. As you might know, DJ’ing has primarily been my way of performing, so this definitely feels like stepping into a new level. I’m bringing a fresh batch of original productions, performed in a live-dub style – raw, heavy, and built for the sound system.

And I really think this is a great opportunity to experience true soundsystem culture. An outdoor summer bash in the cosy Christiania, surrounded by the enormous Strøm sound – what’s not to like! And not to mention the lineup? Serious!

Mbizo will perform LIVE at Strøm Festival 2025: Sound System Peace Party alongside EMA, Dubrunner, Darwin and Om Unit
