STRØM STUDIOS: KØDBYEN

OPEN CALL WINTER 27

As part of our commitment to supporting and developing electronic music culture, Strøm is opening the doors to the Kødbyen studio for six one-week residencies this autumn

We’re looking for curious sound artists, producers, and composers to apply for a one-week residency with dedicated access to the studio and its equipment at Strøm HQ in Kødbyen.

The residency offers artists dedicated time and space to experiment, develop ideas, and explore the unique collection of analogue and vintage equipment at Strøm Studios: Kødbyen.

ABOUT THE STUDIO

The studio is based on Lydskatten, a growing archive of rare instruments, equipment, tapes, photos, and materials dating back to the 1950s. The collection includes acquisitions from Else Marie Pade, Gunner Møller Pedersen, and Fuzzy, as well as contributions from the Technical University of Denmark, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and private donors.

The studio is designed for hands-on exploration and experimental work, featuring vintage filters and oscillator units, tape machines, delays, spring reverbs. It features Danish equipment from Lyrec, DR, DTU, and Brüel & Kjær, as well as a high-end Dynaudio monitoring setup and Rostec AD/DA converters.

We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities, including all genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and ages.

You don’t need to be an expert in vintage equipment to apply, though experience with analogue gear is a plus.

Special thanks to KODA Kultur for generously supporting this project.

Please note that this open call offers one-week residencies only. Strøm does not provide accommodation, meals, travel expenses, or artist fees. Residency dates cannot be changed once granted. If you are unable to attend for any reason, please contact us immediately so we can offer the slot to another applicant.

FAQ

Got more questions regarding the studio, residency, gear or the application process?

CONTACT US

Can I apply if I live outside of Denmark
– yes, but unfortunately strøm can’t provide accommodation nor a grant for being at our studios.

If we’re applying as a duo, do we need to send two applications?
-no, if you’re applying as a duo, please send just one application.

Am I the only one in the studio, or will I share it with others?
– you have full acces to the studio 24/7 for a full week.

Will there be an introduction to the equipment?
– yes, there will be an introduction on the first day of your residency.

How many users can be in the studio at the same time?
– the equipment encourages for multiple users at once, but due to limited space, we recommend a maximum of two users. Multiple users also makes for a good learning-curve!

Will there be technical assistance during my stay?
– assistance will be limited, but available during working hours and via phone.

Can I use all the equipment?
– all the equipment is plugged into a patchbay, wherefrom it should be relatively accessible.

Can I bring my own equipment?
-yes it makes a lot of sense to supply the unfamiliar vintage equipment with your own wellknown gear!

Can I use recordings from the studio in other contexts?
-yes you’re very welcome to do that, but we can’t give out our tapereels, so we recommend to bring your own laptop for recording. Also if you finish a piece, which was made in the studio, we would love to be tagged on socials.

Is the studio accessible for people with disabilities?
-yes, the studio is on the ground floor and can be entered from the street, but we recommend having an assistant, if you use a wheelchair.
