From Dublin, Ireland and based in Copenhagen since 2002 Fergus has contributed consistently to the local music scene in Denmark through dj’ing, dancing, events, talks, crews, festivals, promotion and writing about music.
Like many of the 80’s era he grew up in, teenage years were mostly spent assembling pause-button tapes from a fledgling vinyl collection, essential weekly radio shows and one deck. Encountering a set of 2 turntables and playing music live on college radio in 1988 sealed the desire to collect, promote, programme and present music by all means necessary.
Still going, still growing. 2018 and 30 years later is still about playing music, the joys of quality sound, a buzzing Copenhagen musical scene and dedicated dancers as a resident at Copenhagen hotspot Jolene with his night ‘lightsdownlow’; which blends the soul of the old with the new and crosses genres and styles in a knitwork of frequencies – diving into musical wormholes and conjuring a sound spell driven by dancers – always played with the spirit of the ancient rave running through it.
Strøm Lab is now a proper and special Sound Room and an ideal home for many of the Strøm Knowledge workshops, artist talks and ideas that surround Strøm and the musicians gathered this year. It’s were engineers, builders and studio boffins meet dancers and makers for a sit down and all observers can get informed first hand. With Stan Nastevs speakers and the air proofed room it’s already a perfect space for sound, sounding out and listening closely with a programme that is tight and focused this year.
Fatima & Eglo Band, Moses Boyd, Athletic Progression: “Incredible opportunity to catch the hugely talented Swedish (London Based) singer Fatima with band. She has been central to the Eglo label and its unique spirit since the start and remains one of the most convincing artists, always working with the freshest of productions. Never mind that it’s free but the phenomenal UK jazz drummer Moses Boyd will support (check his Absolute Zero ep. !!), which feels like a coup. They will also do an artist talk and Aarhus darlings Athletic Progression get a line up to support which they really belong on.”
Strøm Rave: SydhavnsGade: “Super strong and exciting local crew of talents and music lovers ‘SydhavnsGade’ bring Marcellus Pittman and Alexander Nut to their new warehouse home for what promises to be another legendary Strøm Rave. The combination of SydhavnsGades attention to detail, the fact that they draw city wide dance crews outta the brickwork of this town and a rare talent for hosting with the most will be the perfect setting to hear Detroit don Marcellus Pittman and Eglo mainman Alexander Nut stretch out and reach deep. Kindness matters.”
